This policy explains what information GameSnitch (gamesnitch.net) collects when you use the site, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than dense legal wording. If anything here is unclear, you're welcome to get in touch and ask.

Who we are

GameSnitch is a price tracking site for PlayStation, Xbox and Steam games. We are not affiliated with Sony, Microsoft or Valve, and we don't process payments — every purchase link on the site sends you to the relevant official storefront to complete the transaction there, under their own terms.

Information you give us

If you create an account, we ask for a name and email address, and optionally a phone number, so we can identify your account and let you sign back in. You can also sign up or log in with your Google or Facebook account instead of setting a password directly, in which case we receive the basic profile details those services share with us (typically your name and email address) rather than your credentials.

Once you have an account, anything you add to your favorites or watchlist is stored against it so it's there the next time you visit, and so we know which games to check when we send price-drop or expiring-discount emails.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we automatically log some technical information when you visit — things like your IP address, browser type, the pages you view and roughly when you viewed them. We use this for basic troubleshooting and to understand which parts of the site get used, not to build a profile of any individual visitor.

Cookies

We use cookies for a handful of practical purposes: remembering which storefront region you last selected so you don't have to reset it on every page, keeping you signed in between visits, and basic analytics. Third-party services we use, such as Google Analytics and Google's advertising products, may also set their own cookies to do things like measure traffic or show relevant ads. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though the region and login features won't work properly without them.

Advertising and analytics

We run Google Analytics to understand site traffic, and we may show ads served by Google. These services can collect information about your visits to this and other sites in order to serve ads and measure their performance; that data collection is governed by Google's own privacy policy, not ours. If you'd prefer not to receive personalized ads, Google provides opt-out tools through Ads Settings.

Emails

If you're on a watchlist notification and a tracked game drops in price or a discount is about to expire, we'll send you an email about it. We keep a basic log of notification emails sent (the address, region and game involved) so we don't send the same alert twice and so we can troubleshoot if something didn't arrive. We don't send marketing emails unrelated to the alerts you've signed up for, and you can remove games from your watchlist at any time to stop future notifications about them.

Who we share information with

We don't sell your personal information. It's shared only where it's genuinely needed to run the site: with our hosting and infrastructure providers who store the data on our behalf, with Google for the analytics and advertising described above, and with Google or Facebook if you choose to sign in that way. We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, for example in response to a valid request from a court or law enforcement.

How long we keep your data

We keep account information for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove your personal details; some records, such as anonymized traffic logs, may be retained for a longer period since they aren't tied to an identifiable person.

Your rights

You can review and update most of your account details yourself from your profile page. If you'd like a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or you'd like it deleted, email us and we'll take care of it — we may ask you to verify your identity first so we don't hand your data to the wrong person.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect the information we hold, including storing passwords in hashed form rather than as plain text. No method of storing or transmitting data online is completely risk-free, so while we work to protect your information, we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

GameSnitch isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new feature that changes what data we collect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision, and if a change is significant we'll try to make that clear on the site.
